Pippa Middleton won’t be arrested in France after her friend flashed a “fake” gun

On Monday, we covered the scandal involving Pippa Middleton and a gun. I making that way more sensational than it really was – the basic story: Pippa was in France, hanging out with rich dudes, and one of the dudes “pulled a gun” and pointed it at a paparazzo while Pippa smirked and laughed. The paparazzo in question had been following Pippa around Paris, taking photos of her as she made the rounds with all of the eligible Frenchmen she could find, and he got the “money shot” – one of the dudes pointing the gun at him as Pippa made eye contact with the camera.

Well, on Monday, the British and French press were having a field day with this story, and there was said to be a police “inquiry” in regards to the gun incident. Even if the gun was fake, there would still be legal consequences, maybe. Except that it doesn’t seem like there actually is a police inquiry. Because no one has complained or filed charges or anything. Oh, and one of the French dudes has a spokesperson, and the spokesperson claims the gun is fake:

Pippa Middleton went to Paris for a friend’s birthday party and the British media are agog over an alleged gun flashed at paparazzi by one of her companions.

But a spokesman for a French fashion designer photographed in a car with Middleton, sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, and a pistol-brandishing driver says it was a toy gun, and just “a game” with paparazzi.

Aymeric de Drouas, spokesman for a French clothing company owned by Arthur de Soultrait, told The Associated Press the gun in a photo published by The Sun newspaper was a toy and the photographers knew it.

Drouas says Middleton and Soultrait told him they were joking with photographers who’d been trailing them throughout Middleton’s visit for Soultrait’s birthday party.

Paris police say they’ve received no complaint and are not investigating.

[From The New York Times]

A French police source also told the Press Association, “We don’t know the circumstances in which these photographs were taken. But we cannot launch an inquiry based simply on photographs that have appeared online and in the press. To launch an investigation, it would be necessary for there to have been a complaint or something would need to have presented itself to police.” So… it sounds like Pippa is not going to get arrested or anything like that. It was just embarrassing for her, but not criminal.

Which makes me wonder – are the British people finally over Pippa? Granted, I like her. I think she’s pushy, aggressive, nakedly ambitious and Uptradey, but I like that about her. I feel like there’s not much pretense with her – you know you’re getting a party girl looking to marry the richest, most well-connected man. But the way the British press tried to whitewash her, it seemed like she was being groomed for bigger and brighter things. Not so much anymore – after hustling in the public eye for almost a year, Pippa is finally getting some really bad press, much of it self-inflicted. After all, even before this fake-gun incident, Pippa had partied the night before with “dwarves, strippers, people clothed in bondage outfits and a woman fire-eater” at that Frenchman’s birthday party. So not Duchess-y, Pips. I wonder if the British press is going to recast Pippa as the “Fergie” to Duchess Kate’s “Diana”?

Bet this story goes no where. Pipa is so try-hard.

    Those leggings….I just can’t.

for sure! this debate was ridiculous
for example:if ever french kid who plays with a fake gun was arrested,it wouldn’t more have kid at school

We have the same law in my country. Its not toy guns, its realistic looking toy guns that are the problem. Those types of toys are not even sold here.

If you think about it, many parents now dont buy guns as toys. Even those parents who do wouldnt be buying for a real-life looking toy. It would be one of those luminously coloured things.

Certainly, the prime reason a person would have a real-life looking gun would be to scare and intimidate others. And who knows what kind of chain reaction a stunt like this could trigger. Prosecute these people & set an example.

Meant to say the other day, the Daily Mail refers to her as ‘her Royal Hotness’ which seeing is she is neither, always sends me into a frenzy of eyerolling. Snort.

    What are we, fifteen?!!

She’s definitely going down the Fergie/Princess Margaret route and will be this royal generations’ embarrassment. It doesn’t matter how ridiculous the French Law seems-it matters that someone associated with the monarchy and the sister-in-law to the future King of England is such a ditz that she doesn’t know how to behave when she’s abroad.

    All hail Queen BJ!

  8. Loulou says:

Romain Rabillard is a lawyer who represents a German gun firm happens to be the gun-toting driver. He works for an AAmerican top legal firm in Paris. So, toy gun? Anyways, since Princess Di died pretty much because of a car chase trying to ditch paparazzi, I’m not sure there’s much sympathy for the paparazzo at the other hand of that gun. Diplomatically, I’m ready to bet this is how the incident got squashed. By bringing up Di’s death. Dumb, all around.

I just can’t with that face

I hate to admit it but I feel the same. I do think very often when we attack women we unfairly go after their looks, but I think this is a woman who thinks she is all that and a pint of lager, and she just isn’t. She has an adorable figure no doubt but her skin is terrible and the heavy makeup and overwhelming hair age her about twenty years.

    • gg says:

I think what bugs me so much about her face is how she holds it. When she plasters the toothy grin, there is zero smiling in the eyes. Just that wide-eyed, black-lined stare. Fake looking.

    That dude…

Can we come up with a word for a wealthy, aristocratic euro-hipsters???

    Lord Hipsterton?
    Hipsterocracy?
    Euro Tripsters?

    Help me, guys.

This is a non-story that the media has blown out of all proportion. US Magazine today doesn’t even mention that the gun was a toy or that the incident is NOT being investigated.

All Pippa did was go to a costume party, big deal! The press seems over anxious to have a scandal when there isn’t one.

    • fairy godmother says:

Other than daft jerks w/ poor taste as to what their idea as to what is “fun”- an attorney waved the gun & knew French law.
With recent incidents involving guns in France & the day before a kid had pulled out a gun in public. He was arrested & still behind bars waiting for formal charges while facing years in prison.
How is this incident any different? French police were told to down play story. No accountability for dim-wits w/ $$$ & connections.

  12. Onyx XV says:

I agree with others above that this is a non-story.

Boy, close-up pictures sure do tell a different story about Ms. Pippa! At Kate & William’s wedding, Pippa appeared so demure and refined, but upon closer inspection – her face is ROUGH! She looks much older than her 29 years – more like 39. And that’s being kind.

  13. georgiapeach says:

Ok is it me or does the guy with her in the third pic have lipstick on his face and clothes?

  14. Sachi says:

Apparently, there were some calls from “London” that put the pressure on the French police to sweep this under the rug and not go after Pippa.

Money and power talk, as usual.

And for those saying this is a non-story, gun laws are very strict in France. Even a fake gun can land you a couple of years in jail. So don’t say that this is a non-story because it obviously isn’t.

The next time someone points a gun at you, are you even going to ask, “Fake or real?” before you try and protect yourself?

Most people can’t tell a real gun from a fake one, especially if a toy gun is painted black, so the concern from the French police is valid.

There were massacres in France not too long ago by gun-toting killers, so for some people to say that this is a non-story and blown out of proportions is disturbing. The amount of murders by shooting in North America alone is staggering.

I tend to take these cases very seriously, and I get angry when someone makes fun of carrying a toy gun that looks like a real gun, considering how many children in schools have been murdered by their classmates with real guns. Or how about that little girl who got shot in the stomach when a gun in a classmate’s backpack fired accidentally? Or the many people who have been killed because someone pointed a gun at them and “didn’t know” the gun was real or was unaware that the gun was loaded? Are all of them non-stories?

If someone points a gun at me, I’d call the police. Who cares if it’s fake. The intent to harm is there and the person wielding it should be investigated. Same goes for the people who encouraged the guy to point the gun (fake or not) and those who are with him and aware of his thoughts and behaviour.

Alas, either William or the Middleton lawyers put the pressure on the French police to not pursue Pippa, and the police caved. It’s sad to see the law and its supposed “enforcers” pander to the rich and powerful but that’s not new and not surprising in the least.

If this were someone else, someone not rich/famous/notorious/powerful/connected, they’d be in jail, no questions asked.

    It’s disgusting.

  15. JulieM says:

One big difference between Pippy and Fergie. Fergie married in to the royal family. Pippy has not – yet. So she has more leeway to “act up” than Fergie did. And, I think Pippy is smarter than Fergie.

I thought this would be swept under the rung. After the frenzy in Monday’s Daily Mail, I notice that on Tuesday, the DM web site had pretty much been scrubbed of any gun incident stories/pictures/references. So, I think someone got to the French authorities.

As Sachi says, money talks. Put Pippy better be more careful or she won’t get anyone rich and titled to marry her. Because that is what she’s all about.

  16. GoodCapon says:

The Palace would never admit it but you can bet they’re pulling some strings to keep this as low-profile as possible! But no matter how much they try to cover it up, ‘gungate’ is everywhere. She’s done. BUSTED.

It’s about time she got some bad press. The media has been awfully nice to her this past year, but they’re not her friend this time. All that good rep she acquired from that charity ski race is gone in a flash. But there’s still that trashy book which will be released in a few months’ time (publication pushed in advance in light of this scandal) so expect Pippa to cozy it up again with the paparazzi. Shh, she would never admit it, but she really, really likes the attention!

    • Susannah says:

She probably calls the paps to let them know where she will be.
It’s a dangerous game to play and I don’t think Pippa is clever enough to win.

BTW: has anyone noticed that Pippa is pidgeon-toed?

      • GoodCapon says:

Yes I have (is Kate pigeon-toed as well?)

She also doesn’t know how to dress well for her body type (extremely long torso, short stubby legs)

  17. christinne says:

jeez…..the MOUSTACHE how come i haven’t notice it before? holly cow! a man with lispstick

  18. Sean says:

So the Heckler and Koch employee flashed a FAKE gun? I hope he is fired just for that. That is like a McDonalds employee waving a fake hamburger.
